Streetscapes
Streetscapes are infrastructure improvements that improve the pedestrian realm. They typically include: wider sidewalks, shade trees, landscaping, lighting, and street furniture.
Streetscape improvements promote walking by providing a pleasant experience for the pedestrian. A major benefit is the connectivity and accessibility that streetscapes provide between areas. They also promote investment because they are a permanent infrastructure that will increase the value of an area and bring more foot traffic.

In partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale, the DDA completed the 2nd Street/Himmarshee Streetscape Demonstration Project in 2005, better connecting 3rd Avenue (at the tip of the Financial District) to the Himmarshee Entertainment District (see before and after visuals below).

The DDA has completed conceptual designs for NE 4th and 5th Streets and is currently finishing conceptual designs of SE/SW 6th and 7th Streets. The DDA hopes to move to the next phase of development by mid 2010.
