Urban Oasis
A new initiative, the Urban Oasis program is an "ONION TO ORCHIDS" concept. There are currently pieces of property in our core downtown that sit empty and serve as no more than an eyesore, given the state of the economy. The Urban Oasis program seeks to activate and beautify these spaces.
The DDA plans to partner with the City of Fort Lauderdale and the individual site owners to temporarily move the fence back approximately 10 feet, providing more public domain. It is the intent to activate these spaces with art exhibits, fence wraps, wall wraps and/or projection art, as well as "GREEN UP the spaces by adding potted trees and grass. The opportunities are endless!

The first site, on the south side of Las Olas Blvd between SE 1st Avenue and SE 2nd Avenue is currently being planned and groundbreaking is scheduled in February! See below for photos of existing conditions and the concepts of the possible enhancements.
