The Plaza serves as a civic and cultural bridge for residents and visitors alike as they walk from one downtown area to the next. To the east of the Plaza are the college campuses, financial district, YOLO plaza, and the charming las olas shoppes and restaurants. To the west, lies the himmarshee district, the historic district, and the arts & entertainment district. The governmental buildings, the main library, and Flagler Village can be found heading north and the judicial complex and the Urban Publix are just south of the plaza. The plaza serves as a great place to hold outdoor events. For more information, see below.
The Plaza has become interactive over the past decade, with the addition of the cornerstone fountain and a laser/light feature. The fountain plays music and actually mocks the beat/tone of each song through the water height and intensity. When the music is not playing, the fountain goes in interactive mode and mocks the movement of people's hand motions at each of the sensors. The interactive laser projects onto the lawn and features pre-programmed laser movements and shapes. Finally, each of the 34 oak trees have LED lights that "dance" in sequence, providing a light performance!
