Best Cities for Career Growth

May 7, 2024

Fort Lauderdale ranks as the 8th best city in the nation and 3rd best city in the Sun Belt for career growth according to a recently released study by Commercial Café.

“This means that from the high rises of Las Olas Boulevard to mom and pop shops in the suburbs, a higher share of Fort Lauderdale residents make their own schedule and thus have more chances to develop professional skills.”

Driving Fort Lauderdale’s strong performance in these rankings is the city’s placement as:

  • 3rd for self-employment with 16.9% of all workers self-employed

  • 5th for concentration of co-working spaces

  • 7th for flexible work opportunities

“Beyond tourism…job growth here is also driven by numerous flexible work-friendly industries, like finance and a growing tech sector.”

Florida is Leading the Way

The State of Florida outshined its Sun Belt peers in this study given that four of the top ten cities in the South were from the state. Compared to the entire country, no other state had as many cities ranked in the top 20 as Florida.

  • Florida - Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Orlando

  • Virginia – Richmond and Alexandria

  • California – Pasadena and San Francisco

Florida continues to reinforce its status as a premier place to live, work, and do business. Whether working in traditional office, co-working spaces, or remotely, the State and its biggest cities are cementing their role as major economic engines.
