Fort Lauderdale as a Driver for Innovation

April 14, 2022

The National Science Foundation, with data provided by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, recently released a report on key innovation indicators highlighting the places driving new research & development. One key measure of innovation in a region is the volume of trademarks and patents issued. This metric was outlined by the county in a section of the report on "The Geography of U.S. Trademarking".

Fort Lauderdale Ranks Towards The Top Among Cities From Throughout the Southeast.

Broward and Miami-Dade have an identical number of trademarks per 1,000 residents, ranking slightly behind Travis County (Austin).

Broward and Miami-Dade are tied for the lead in the State of Florida, outpacing Palm Beach and Orange County. Notably, the number of trademarks per 1,000 residents in Broward County alone is nearly double that of Hillsborough County and over 6 times that of Davidson County (Nashville).

This metric is a positive indicator for the growth of South Florida's entrepreneurial ecosystem and the regions status as a destination of choice for innovative talent. DowntownFTL will continue to benefit from this trend.
